What is High-Pressure Die Casting?

Understand pressure die casting


Pressure die casting refers to the casting method in which the molten or semi-molten metal is rapidly injected into a metal mold and crystallized under pressure, also known as die casting. The commonly used injection pressure is 30 to 70 MPa, the filling speed is about 0.5 to 50 m/s, and the filling time is 0.01 to 0.2 s. Pressure die casting is a casting method that fills liquid or semi-solid metal or alloy, or liquid metal or alloy containing reinforcing phase at a higher speed under high pressure into the cavity of the die, and solidifies and forms the castings under pressure. The commonly used pressure during casting is 4 to 500 MPa, and the metal filling speed is 0.5 to 120m/s. The principle of pressure die casting is mainly based on the principle of metal liquid injection molding. Casting conditions are usually adjusted by adjusting the speed, pressure, and switching position of the speed on the pressure casting machine, and the others are selected during the casting mold operation.


Understand high pressure die casting


High pressure die casting is a very effective manufacturing method that can be used to produce various forms of products. This process forces molten metal into a closed steel mold at high speed and pressure. The mold has a fixed and movable half, both of which are installed on the press plate of the casting machine. The casting machine has an injection end, which uses hydraulics and pressurized gas to push the piston forward and inject the molten metal into the closed steel mold. The casting machine also has a clamping end, which uses hydraulics and mechanical joints to absorb the injection pressure and keep the mold closed when the part solidifies. This process can turn molten metal into near-end-shaped components in a matter of seconds. The three main metal groups used in this casting process are aluminum, zinc, and magnesium. CWM cast all three metals and use cold chamber and hot chamber high-pressure casting processes.

High pressure die casting can mass-produce large lightweight alloy parts with extremely fast speed and efficiency. High pressure die casting also provides parts with excellent surface finish, excellent uniformity, and optimal mechanical performance.


Another advantage of high pressure die casting is that, due to the excellent dimensional accuracy and smooth surface, it usually does not require a lot of processing. Compared with other manufacturing processes, high pressure die casting is an efficient and economical process that produces parts with high strength and low weight, requires less machine processing than making parts, creates complex and intricate shapes in a single piece without assembly or welding, offers a wider range of shapes than other metal manufacturing technologies, and achieves precise tolerances.
